What is an Empty Bowl event?

Empty Bowls is a grassroots fundraising non profit organization dedicated to bring awareness to hunger and its related issues. It was started in 1990 by an art teacher, John Harton, who wanted a way to make a difference in the community. It is now grown to be international project that is personalized by artists and art organizations at a community level.

Art groups and individual artists get together and create ceramic bowls that are donated to be sold at a Empty Bowl event. People who attend the event, buy a handmade bowl and recieve a meal of soup and bread with their purchase. The purchased bowl serves as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.

All of the money raised at the event will go directly to local South Jersey food banks.
